Had it up and working in about 20 minutes. Being a sparky its a simple install into an existing circuit, and clip on the induction clamps. The app picked it up right away, and was feeding data into Home Assistant after the 2 hour warm up period. Impressed.
Fitted & works as intended.
Shelly EM is poor build quality and breaks the PCB connections when tightening the CT terminals. Refund policy is also poor, requiring you to send the product back at your expense..! If you like to waste your time and money buy this unit. Shelly should really recall this device!
We appreciate your feedback and understand your frustration. However, we'd like to clarify the steps we took to assist you with your issue regarding the Shelly EM.
When you initially reached out to us, we promptly provided troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue. After you informed us that the steps did not work, we guided you through the return process and advised you to send the item back for assessment. As we mentioned via email, all faulty item returns undergo evaluation by our backend team, and if the item is confirmed to be faulty, the shipping cost would also be refunded.
Instead of returning the item as instructed, you opted to open the device and attempt to solder it yourself. Please note that we never advised or requested you to do this, as it not only poses safety risks but also voids the manufacturer's warranty. Unfortunately, once a product has been modified in this manner, we can no longer process it under the standard warranty terms.
Thank you for your understanding.
The Shelly EM was relatively easy to install, and the app is good enough, and simple integration into Home Assistant. Unfortunately, the second sensor port doesn't work. Not sure whether this is due to a bad port on the board, or a bad 50A sensor. The second port would have been nice, but not critical enough to delay my data collection which is why I haven't reached out for an RMA.
Bought 3 Shelly EMs to monitor five circuits and had them installed by an electrician. These Shelly EMs are easy to commission via the Shelly app once wired up and can be easily integrated into Home Assistant for energy monitoring and other automation. A great versatile product.
